Big Plans for Bayan Baru Mini
Library
(17 January 2010)
The
mini library at the Bayan Baru market will soon boast a host of
activities for Bayan Baru residents, among them a book reading
club and computer classes for senior citizens.
Pantai Jerejak assemblyman Sim Tze
Tzin said there were also plans to induct more volunteers to man
the library in the morning to enable more activities to be
carried out.
At the moment, the library is only
open from 4pm to 10pm and students are coming here to do their
revision and their homework.
"We have plans to get 10 computers
for this library in the next two months and open classes for the
senior citizens to become Internet savvy by teaching them how to
use Facebook, blog, YouTube and even write e-mails to their
grandchildren who are studying or living abroad," he told
reporters after handling over 500 novels, magazines, children's
storybooks, autobiographies and cookbooks to the mini library on
Sunday.
"We want to create not only a
reading society but also a knowledgeable society," he said,
adding that a coffee-corner would also be set up inside the mini
library.
He urged those who wanted to
donate more books to the mini library to contact Victor at
019-4432088.
Sim later launched the Chinese
version of PKR's Suara Keadilan at the Bayan Baru market. He
said the fortnightly publication was sold at RM2 each.
